The Bigger the Better
How to make your space look bigger
It’s a very common feeling to wish that you had more space. What if I told you it’s possible to feel like you have more space without actually getting more space? There are so many tricks that can be done with your wall finishes that will make your space look much bigger!
Color is crucial to making your space look more or less open. Light, cool colors recede, or look further away, opening a space—warm, darker colors feel closer. Avoid medium shades, as they always make a space feel smaller
Before committing to a color, keep in mind the lighting in your room, which is an important factor in what will make your room look more open. If your room gets a lot of natural light, whites, neutrals, and light blues and greens are ideal for opening up your space. In contrast, if your room doesn’t get any natural light, or has no windows, lighter colors can look drab under artificial light, and deeper colors like navy or dark green would actually make your room look more spacious and cozy.
If you’re trying to make your overall space look larger, doing all your walls in the same color makes the space look continuous and cohesive. If you’re focusing on one particular room, you can elongate the room by doing a feature wall in a color that contrasts the color of the other walls, or vertical stripes to draw attention upward—the stripes don’t need to be bold, they can be thin, or monochrome.
